The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced on Saturday, April 9, the availability of employment opportunities for the summer recreational season. Individuals looking for seasonal summer employment who enjoy the outdoors are encouraged to learn more about opportunities to work at DEC facilities. DEC operates 52 public campgrounds and five, day-use areas throughout the Adirondack and Catskill Parks. DEC hires more than 500 seasonal employees to provide a variety of services throughout the summer season. The NYPD has confirmed that a 12-year-old girl who had been reported missing in Allerton has been found and is safe. Prior to being located, according to police, Zamari Alvarez had last been seen in the vicinity of her home in Allerton on Thursday, April 7, at around 6 p.m. She was described as female, approximately 5 feet, 3 inches in height, Hispanic, weighing around 120 pounds, with brown eyes and dark hair. A coalition of community groups and residents, including Friends of Jerome Park, will hold a memorial event to honor all those lost to COVID-19 to date, as the country surpasses a second year of the pandemic.
