Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez has issued a statement regarding residents’ concerns in the Allerton community about the possibility of a substance abuse treatment center being opened in the neighborhood.

Department of Buildings work permit signs at 2500 Williamsbridge Road had prompted concern among the community that a treatment center was going ahead. The assemblywoman said that she contacted the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports who confirmed that there was no such application pending at the site.

Fernandez is clarifying with the Department of Buildings what the permits are for, and has also reached out for more information to Carnegie Hill Institute, whose representatives gave a presentation about the proposed facility to Bronx Community Board 11 on Sept. 10. Members of the board had concerns about the project.

Public School 89 is located close to the location and a number of other schools are located in the vicinity also. Bronx Community Board 11 issued a letter to Exit Realty Group dated Sept. 16, outlining their concerns about the project, and Bronx Park East Community Association circulated a copy of the letter on social media.

Fernandez encouraged residents to contact her directly if they had any concerns about the project. “I promise I will continue to fight for the will of the community, as I always have,” she wrote in the written statement.

City Councilman Mark Gjonaj issued a tweet saying he was also demanding answers as to the use of the building.
