Bronx Film Week is back for its second year, running from August 13 to August 22. Kicking off with a community party on Aug. 13, at SoBro Garden, 26 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NY 10454, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the event will feature filmmakers, Eif Rivera and Rashaad Ernesto Green, and will offer press, partners, and film lovers an early look at the week ahead.

From there, it will expand across 14 venues throughout The Bronx, including Regal Concourse, the Bronx Museum, Pregones Theater, Andrew Freedman Home, and Lehman College, Inspiration Point, Bronx Children’s Museum and Bronx House, among others.

“The Bronx needs an indie cinema,” said Gregory Hernandez, executive director of the Bronx Independent Cinema Center (BICC), the organization behind the festival. “We have the audience. Now, we need the space.”

Organizers say 42 films, including independent features, shorts, local work, revivals, and documentaries, will be screened over the course of the week and there will also be two panel discussions, a fireside chat, a trivia night, and a walking cinema tour in Fordham. Now in its second year, the film week is powered by more than 30 community volunteers, they said.

Organizers went on to say that Bronx Film Week was created to address what they identified as a persistent gap in the borough’s cultural landscape: the lack of dedicated space for independent filmmakers, film lovers, and film workers to screen, discuss, and celebrate their work close to home. By bringing programming into neighborhood venues rather than a single central location, they said the festival aims to make the Bronx a visible and lasting home for independent cinema.

Bronx Film Week Overview

• 42 total films screened, spanning independent, local, short, feature, revival, and documentary work.
• 14 venues hosting screenings and events throughout the Bronx.
• Two panel discussions with filmmakers and industry professionals.
• A fireside chat / conversation with filmmakers in an intimate, informal setting.
• A community trivia night celebrating film history and Bronx cinema culture.
• A guided walking tour of historic cinema sites in Fordham.
• More than 30 volunteers supporting operations, hospitality, and programming across the week.

The 2026 line-up includes a mix of Bronx-made and Bronx-centered stories alongside acclaimed independent and classic titles. Among them are “Simpson Street,” “Christmas Wedding Baby,” “Generational Growth,” “For Venida, For Kalief,” “Brain Fest,” “The Sight Unseen,” “Wild Style,” “The Wanderers,” and “Our Song.” Additional titles and full screening schedules by venue will be announced ahead of opening night.

“This is so important; I’m excited to screen my film at Bronx Film Week,” said Nevaeh-Leh Lipscomb, filmmaker, Bronx native, and School of the Visual Arts (SVA) graduate.

Bronx Film Week is presented in partnership with organizations rooted in the borough’s neighborhoods and business corridors, including the 161st Street BID, White Plains Road BID, Bronx Terminal Market, and the Hip Hop Film Festival. Additional community partners and sponsors will be announced in the lead-up to the festival.

Tickets for Bronx Film Week are available here. Organizations and businesses interested in becoming a community partner or sponsor can sign up through the Bronx Independent Cinema Center’s Linktree, linked in the BICC Instagram bio (@bronxcinema).

As reported, BICC is dedicated to celebrating cinema in the Bronx and building sustainable space for independent filmmakers, film lovers, and film workers in the borough. Bronx Film Week is BICC’s flagship annual festival, bringing film screenings and community programming to neighborhoods across the Bronx.

The festival is organized by Bronx Independent Cinema Center, a local nonprofit working to build lasting space for independent filmmakers,  film lovers, and film workers in the borough. Click here for some of our previous coverage of their work.
