A Chevrolet Equinox car seemingly ignited in flames on Sunday afternoon, July 26, in the Fordham Heights section of The Bronx. Video obtained by Norwood News shows the in flames at the scene.

An FDNY spokesperson later said the department received a call at 3.09 p.m. for a report of a vehicle on fire at East 184th Street and Jerome Avenue. They said there were no injuries reported and the incident was closed at 3.43 p.m.

 

The car owner was at the scene later that day along with a mechanic with whom the female car owner said she had left the car for a repair job around a half an hour before it went up in flames. The mechanic said it first started to smoke and later ignited. The car owner called the NYPD while Norwood News was on site.

 

Speaking in Spanish, the woman said she has insurance but not “full” insurance and was worried her insurance would not cover all the damage. The woman said she bought the car in 2018.

The car was seen very badly burned out and the FDNY had seemingly removed the driver door. The woman did not understand why. She said the car was unoccupied at the time she left it there for repairs and was due to pick it up the following day. Norwood News is following up with the NYPD for details of the police report and will share more details as they become available.
