Speaking in Spanish, one worker at the scene said he heard one shot and came outside to see what happened but did not see the victim or the shooter. He appeared hesitant to say much.

Two other men, one older and one younger, also speaking in Spanish, recounted a similar story. They said they did not witness the incident but heard it and just saw the aftermath . The older man said, “It was just one shot that they gave him, nothing more. We came out and he was thrown there on the ground.” He said he did not recognize the victim from the area.

Asked to describe him, he said he was young, was wearing jeans, a white top, and tennis shoes, and that a baseball cap was seen on the ground near him.
Norwood News asked the older man if the victim had fallen backwards when he was hit, and he reflected for a moment and then said, “No, face down, I think.” He added that he didn’t see his face. Asked if he saw his wound, the older man said, “No, nothing more than one shot.”

The older man was accompanied by some small children and we asked if they had been outside when the shooting happened. “No, inside.” he said. We asked if the victim had been alone and the man said, “Yes.”
We asked him how he felt knowing that a murder had taken place so close to where he lives. “Sad” he said. Asked if he felt unsafe in the neighborhood, he said, “Of course.” Norwood News also asked if it was the first time a fatal shooting had taken place so close to his home. The older man said, “The first time in 30 years here I see this,” he said. “I never saw anything like this.” He said the victim looked dead, the street was isolated, and it was scary and sad.

Asked how he felt about the incident, the younger man who also lives locally said, “A bit sad, because it’s always calm but from one year to another, it has become terrible.” We asked if he recognized the victim and he said he did not.
In a video of the incident obtained by Norwood News, prior to the shooting, the victim is seen at a distance strolling on the sidewalk area where he was eventually shot. He appears to be White or possibly Hispanic, had a slim build, and seemed to have been talking on his phone.

He was carrying a dark-colored backpack, and looked as though he was possibly waiting for someone. His clothing description matches the one the resident gave.
Two cars were double-parked a short distance away from where the victim was standing when he was shot. A red-colored truck is seen parked next to the curb further down the street closer to where the victim was standing. A third black car, seemingly with its headlights on is also seen double-parked behind the two other silver or light colored, double-parked cars.

A tallish man with a medium build, dressed in dark clothing and a hoodie, is then seen walking up East 187th Street towards Park Avenue from the direction of Webster Avenue. It’s unclear if he had exited the black car or not as it is only partially seen in the frame.
He continues to walk up the street in the general direction of the victim who is still on the sidewalk but doesn’t approach him immediately. He hovers around on the street for a few seconds and it’s unclear if the victim sees him or if he is facing in another direction and still on his phone. It’s also unclear if they speak to each other before the gunman raises his arm and shoots the victim at head / shoulder height at point blank range.

The victim is seen immediately falling to the ground, and the gunman leaves the scene immediately along East 187th Street towards Park Avenue and in the opposite direction from the one he came.
In other video footage seen of the aftermath of the shooting, police are seen performing chest compressions on the victim in efforts to keep him alive, and he is also seen being placed in an ambulance.

Young school children were seen accompanied by adults walking down the street at one point beside the crime scene. At another point, another young girl started to playfully duck underneath the police tape and pop her head up on the other side of it, as she seemingly waited for police officers to let her cross the street (possibly to enter her home).
