Bedford Park: Man Shot in Chest on East 198th Street

A 32-year-old man has been hospitalized following a shooting in the Bedford Park section of The Bronx on Friday night, May 15, police said.

 

An NYPD spokesperson said that the incident occurred at 9.09 p.m. at East 198th Street and Briggs Avenue. Police said the man was shot in the chest, transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and is in stable condition.

Police had cordoned off a block of East 198th Street between Bainbridge Avenue and Briggs Avenue.

 

A person in the area told Norwood News the shooting took place at close range between the two avenues closer to the Bainbridge Avenue side but not on the corner. One person said it happened close to the pictured black vehicle in the attached photo further below.

 

Police said the motive for the shooting is unknown at present, the investigation is continuing and there is currently no description of a perpetrator.

A person who had been in the deli located on the corner of Bainbridge Avenue and East 198th Street after the shooting told Norwood News the victim and his friend entered the store and the victim was holding his chest.

 

He said his friend asked for a napkin, and the victim later sat on the floor in one of the aisles in the back of the store, and called the emergency services, himself, for help. The person said by the time the victim was removed from the store by EMS, he was very weak and unconscious.
