Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Wednesday, March 25, that a Fordham Manor man was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for having a submachine gun, scope, extended magazines and 50 rounds of ammunition in his possession.

 

“This defendant was convicted of possessing a firearm suitable for combat,” Clark said. “A serious threat to the public is now behind bars.” Clark said the defendant, Jamain Rattary, 40, of 2700 Grand Concourse, was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Jeffrey Rosenbleuth on March 24. She said Rattary was found guilty by a jury of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on Jan.  7.

 

According to the facts introduced at trial, on July 31, 2022, Rattary was arrested inside his apartment at 2700 Grand Concourse by NYPD patrol officers from the 52nd Precinct, responding to a 911 call. They found a Kriss Vector semi-automatic rifle equipped with a scope, two magazines and fifty rounds of .45-caliber ammunition in a hallway closet. The court heard that the defendant represented himself for the majority of the trial and was subject to a life sentence based on what was described as his persistent violent felony offender status.

 

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Saputo of Trial Bureau 60, under the supervision of  Jillian Castrellon, supervisor of Trial Bureau 60, Michael Schordine, deputy chief of Trial Bureau 60, Susanna Imbo, chief of Trial Bureau 60, Meredith Holtzman, counsel to the Trial Division and under the overall supervision of James Brennan, deputy chief of the Trial Division and Theresa Gottlieb, chief of the Trial Division.

 

Clark thanked Trial Preparation Assistant Supervisor Jeissa Burgos, Trial Preparation Assistant Marko Amado and Interpreter Ana Londono Leudo for their assistance on the case.

 

She also thanked NYPD Police Officers Evan Jeselson and Crystal Dones of the 46^th Precinct, formerly assigned to the 52^nd Precinct,  Police Officer Jerry Klepadlo, formerly assigned to the evidence collection team and NYPD Detectives Judah Stavrakoglou of the NYPD Lab Firearms Analysis Section and Anthony Taccetta of the 52nd Precinct for their work on the case.
