A man has died following a shooting in the Wakefield section of The Bronx and a second man is stable following the same incident, police said.
An NYPD spokesperson said that on Saturday, March 14, at around 4.50 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding an assault that occurred inside 4386 White Plains Road.
“Upon arrival, officers observed a 38-year-old male with gunshot wounds to the chest, left arm and left leg,” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.”
Police said that upon further investigation, it was determined that a second victim, an unidentified male, also sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to Montefiore Einstein Hospital by private means.
“EMS then transported the unidentified male to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased,” the NYPD spokesperson said. As previously reported, though every hospital has an ER, Jacobi is the designated Level 1 Trauma Center for The Bronx and highly specialized in handling serious injuries like gunshot wounds.
Police added, “There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.” Police said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending proper family notification.
