Deputy Inspector Asif Iqbal has recently been appointed as the new commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct, which covers some or all of the north Bronx neighborhoods of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge Heights, University Heights, along with Bronx Park.

 

According to the NYPD, Iqbal began his career with the police department in July of 2004. Upon graduating from the police academy, he was
assigned to the 52nd Precinct, where, they said, he began building the foundation of what they described as his distinguished career.

 

In 2009, they said Iqbal was promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned to Police Service Area 8 (PSA 8) in The Bronx, serving the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) developments located in the 43rd and 45th precincts.

The 43rd Precinct serves four southeast Bronx commercial strips of Westchester Avenue, Castle Hill Avenue, White Plains Road, and Parkchester, while the 45th Precinct serves a portion of the northeast Bronx that contains six miles of park area, and 10.6 miles of waterfront. The precinct encompasses Co-op City and City Island.

 

NYPD officials said Iqbal was later transferred to the department’s internal affairs bureau, where he served until his promotion to lieutenant in 2013. They said that as a newly promoted lieutenant, he was assigned to the 49th Precinct, which covers some or all of the Bronx neighborhoods of Allerton, Morris Park, Van Nest, Pelham Parkway, Eastchester Gardens, and Pelham Gardens.

 

They said that from 2014 to 2016, he was reassigned to the internal affairs bureau, continuing what they described as his commitment to integrity and accountability within the department. The NYPD said that in June of 2016, Iqbal was promoted to the rank of captain and was assigned to the 24th Precinct, where he served as the executive officer.

 

The 24th Precinct is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and encompasses Manhattan Valley and a portion of Riverside Park. It is a residential and commercial community of multiple dwelling homes and one major housing development.

NYPD officials said that later in 2016 Iqbal was transferred to the NYPD’s license division, and in 2020, he returned to The Bronx and was assigned as the executive officer of the 52nd Precinct. He has attended various 52nd Precinct Community Council meetings down through the years.

 

According to NYPD officials, in December 2023, Iqbal became the commanding officer of Transit District 30, located at Hoyt/Schermerhorn Street Station in Brooklyn. They said that on Nov. 25, 2025, he was promoted to the rank of deputy inspector, and after two years of service as the commanding officer of Transit District 30, he returned again to where his career began, and they said he now “proudly serves” as the commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct.

 

They said Iqbal grew up and spent significant years of his life and career in The Bronx, which they said gives him a deep understanding of the challenges facing the 52nd Precinct community.

 

“He strongly believes in the importance of community partnerships and has successfully built and maintained meaningful relationships with community members,” they said, adding that by actively listening to their concerns and working collaboratively, he continues to address quality-of-life issues, enhance public safety, and foster trust between the community and the police.

 

Former commanding officer of the 52nd Precinct, Deputy Inspector Chase Maneri was presented with an award at the 52nd Precinct Community Council Meeting held Dec. 18, 2025, by Council President Brenda Caldwell-Paris, as reported, in gratitude for his service to the community.

When Maneri joined the 52nd Precinct in December 2023, its then-commanding officer, Inspector Jeremy Scheublin, was reassigned as commanding officer of the nearby 46th Precinct. Norwood News has asked the NYPD for details of Scheublin’s and Maneri’s latest roles in light of the recent announcement by Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch of the upcoming split of the Bronx borough command into Bronx Borough North and Bronx Borough South in early spring. We will share any feedback we receive.
