Flier shared on the Nextdoor platform by the owner of Milo, the dog
The NYPD is looking for two men who scooped up a puppy in the Fordham Manor section of The Bronx, while it was out for a walk and sped away on a moped leaving a New Jersey family devastated.
According to an NYPD spokesperson, the theft took place at the corner of Webb Avenue and West Fordham Road, near Devoe Park. “A 60-year-old male reported to police that on (Friday) Nov. 28, at approximately 12.30 hours, he was walking his dog in the vicinity of Webb Avenue and West Fordham Road when an individual approached him, picked up his dog, and fled the scene,” the spokesperson said.
“The individual fled with another individual on a 2-wheeled vehicle to parts unknown,” the spokesperson added, noting that there were no arrests in the case, but that police are continuing to investigate.
According to a social media post on the Nextdoor platform by the family who own the dog named “Milo,” he is a male Mini Goldendoodle and is nearly six months old, has reddish–golden fur, and has a white spot on his chest. They said he was wearing a blue collar and a red harness at the time he was taken. They said the dog answers to his name, Milo.
The post continued in part, “Our family is very devastated and shocked by this occurrence. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated!”
Responses to the post were mostly sympathetic, with Eunice Vanderhorst writing, “I would be devastated if this happened to us! I am so sorry. You can’t feel safe even walking your dog. Horrible! Mopeds should be outlawed.”
Offering little comfort to the family, Brianna Ebbecke wrote, “I am not trying to be mean or anything but there’s really little hope at this point. He probably stole the dog to either resell him or just torture or kill him.” The comment concluded, “I’m so sorry this happened; people are evil.”
Milo’s actual owner, a man who declined to be identified, explained that he works in the area of West Fordham Road and was at the scene when the incident took place, but someone from the area was actually walking the dog for him at the time of the theft.
The dog owner told Norwood News, “I handed him to one of the guys to take him for a walk and it happened.” The owner continued, “He’s a very friendly dog and he went to them and they picked him up and took him.”
Anyone with any information on Milo’s whereabouts is asked to call the owner at (201) 633-8425.
