Police said they have made an arrest after two people, a man and woman, were shot on Tuesday evening, Sept. 30, in the Belmont section of The Bronx. Both were hospitalized. On Thursday, Oct. 2, they had released a photo of the suspect (attached below) and had been asking for the public’s help identifying the person.
An NYPD spokesperson told Norwood News police responded to a 911 call at 5.58 p.m. on Sept. 30 of multiple people shot in front of 2382 Webster Avenue, a residential building located next to a corner deli on East 187th Street, around four blocks south of from Fordham Plaza and Fordham University.

“Upon arrival, officers observed a 36-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso (later clarified to hip and leg) and a 35-year-old woman with a graze wound to the leg (ankle),” the spokesperson said. “EMS responded and transported the victims to St. Barnabas in stable condition.”
She said there were no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing. We asked if there were any suspects and a male, wearing all black, and he fled the scene on foot.

Norwood News spoke to some passing residents but they had not witnessed the shooting. Speaking in Spanish, a local deli worker said he heard about 12 shots go off but said it was busy and noisy in the deli at the time and he wasn’t sure.

He said he and his colleagues crouched down behind the counter when they heard the shots as they were initially fearful they were going to be attacked.
He said they later looked outside the store and saw one man who they said looked not young but not old lying on the sidewalk injured.

The employee said there was a subsequent flurry of activity thereafter with police and emergency services arriving on the scene. He said he did not see the shooter.
Police were seen both at the crime scene and also at the top of the steps close to Elm Place on the opposite side of Webster Avenue.

A mobile NYPD unit is sometimes seen stationed at that location which is close to a school, seen in the attached photo in the background, but did not appear to be there on Tuesday night.
On Wednesday, Oct. 8, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, police said an unnamed 14-year-old male was arrested in connection with the shooting on Oct. 6 at 6.30 p.m. in the confines of the 48th Precinct which covers Belmont, East Tremont, West Farms, Fordham University’s Bronx campus, and includes Arthur Avenue, the Cross Bronx Expressway and Crotona Park.

Elsewhere, posts on social media regarding a reported shooting of five people at McDonalds, located at 5765 Broadway in the Kingsbridge section of The Bronx, also on Tuesday evening turned out to be unfounded according to the NYPD.

An ambulance was seen later on Tuesday night outside an urgent care office located close to McDonalds but on the opposite side of Broadway.
