A car overturned onto its roof on the Major Deegan Expressway by West 230th Street on Monday evening, May 19, after a car accident took place, emergency services said.
FDNY/EMS officials said they received a call at 5.22 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle accident at the location. They said the total patient count was three (civilians) who incurred non-life threatening injuries. They said they were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
The two left lanes (of three) of southbound traffic were blocked off along the I-87 (Major Deegan Expressway) at West Fordham Road while emergency services responded to the scene for a few hours. The lanes were cleared at around 8.42 p.m.
Norwood News reached out to the NYPD for more information about the accident. A spokesperson said the driver of Vehicle 2 said he was driving straight on the left lane of the Expressway when the driver of Vehicle 1, while driving on the middle lane, cut him off striking the right front side of his truck and causing Vehicle 2 to crash into the center median and overturn. They said minor injuries were reported and the injured refused medical attention. We’ve queried the discrepancy with what was reported by EMS about the the injured being transported to hospital and will share any updates we receive.
