Editor’s Note: Norwood News is officially on our annual summer hiatus. However, we are continuing to publish some ad hoc stories online that we couldn’t get to earlier this year. We hope everyone gets some time to enjoy the last few weeks of summer and thanks, as always, for reading.

Police have released two photos of a man they say robbed a 20-year-old woman inside a bank in Van Cortlandt Village. Police said officers from the 50th Precinct were called to the Ridgewood Savings Bank, located at 3899 Sedgwick Avenue at Gouverneur Avenue at 2.47 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024.

They said the suspect passed a note to the victim demanding $20,000 while removing $478 from her and then fleeing the location. They said the suspect fled on foot southbound on Sedgwick Avenue and the woman was not injured during the incident.

Police describe the suspect as male with a light complexion and a slim build. They said he was captured on ATM surveillance video and the NYPD released two photos in which the man is seen wearing a blue baseball cap, sunglasses, and a facemask.

Police said he was also wearing a light-blue, button-down shirt over a t-shirt, light-blue shorts and white sneakers. They said he was also carrying a black bag.

Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 577-TIPS. All calls remain confidential.

Editor’s Note: In an earlier version of this story, we reported that the robbery in question took place on Aug. 5, 2025, but it actually took place on Aug. 5, 2024. We apologize for this error.
