Police a 17-year-old girl has been arrested following the fatal stabbing of a second 16-year-old girl inside an apartment in the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx. The incident follows another, recent separate fatal stabbing of a 40-year-old woman also inside an apartment in the nearby Wakefield section of The Bronx on June 28.

Of the latest tragedy, police said that on Tuesday, July 15, at around 3.56 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting a female had been stabbed inside 3511 Boston Road, located within the confines of the 47th Precinct.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old female with multiple stab wounds throughout her head and body,” police said. “The victim was transported by EMS in critical condition to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi where they were later pronounced deceased.”

Police said there were no initial arrests and the investigation remained ongoing. The deceased was identified as Aliyah Williams from the Williamsbridge section of The Bronx. On Wednesday, July 16, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the 17-year-old unidentified girl was arrested and charged the previous day at 7.30 p.m. within the confines of the 47th Precinct which broadly covers the north central Bronx.

Police said she has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. She is presumed innocent unless and until convicted in a court of law.

As reported, in a separate incident, police said that on Saturday, July 5, at around 00.40 a.m., 18-year-old Saniyah Cheatham of Prospect Avenue in Belmont, a student at Bronx Community College, who had been detained in custody inside the 41st Precinct in the Longwood section of The Bronx, was discovered unconscious at a certain point and after being transported to Lincoln Hospital, she was later pronounced deceased.

Her death has been ruled a suicide by the Office of the City’s Medical Examiner, though her family disagree with this and are calling for video camera footage of the incident to be released. Asked why she had been arrested, police said it was for an assault. A lawyer for the victim’s family later said the arrest was for an assault on another teenager.

Though overall crime has continued to drop in New York City as reported, The Bronx has seen a number of violent incidents reported in recent weeks. To view details of the latest crime statistics in the 46th, 50th and 52nd Precincts, click here.
