UPDATE Watch the “Corpse Flower” Bloom During 48-Hour Window in Person or via NYBG’s Livestream

Just in time for Halloween, New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) officials said the infamous Amorphophallus titanum, commonly known as the “corpse flower,” is starting to bloom at the garden, unleashing what they say is its legendary stench but stunning beauty.

“It’s always hard to predict when this marvel of nature will flower and when it does, it only lasts for a brief time,” NYBG officials said. “So, it’s fitting that it is happening right before Halloween, that most macabre of holidays!”

Amid the spooky season, NYBG officials said the latest Amorphophallus titanum began blooming in its Haupt Conservatory around 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

“Keep an eye on the livestream here as the big moment unfolds, and see it for yourself at NYBG,” they added. “It only lasts 24 to 48 hours, so don’t wait!”

A diagram explaining the lifecycle of the Titan-Arum is attached, and a timelapse of the 2019 “Corpse Flower” bloom can be watched below.
