UPDATE Norwood: Man Sought for Criminal Mischief at St. Brendan’s Church

The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying the person seen in the attached photo and video who they say is wanted in connection with a criminal mischief incident that occurred in the Norwood section of The Bronx.

 

Police said that on Sunday, Sept. 21, at around 12.44 p.m. inside 333 East 206th Street, the address for St. Brendan’s Church, an unidentified individual punched and kicked the glass at the location causing it to shatter. They said the suspect then fled on foot in an unknown direction and there were no injuries as a result of the incident.

Police said the suspect is described as male, has a dark complexion, a slim build, dreads, and facial hair. They said he’s around 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighs around 110 pounds, and was last seen wearing black shorts, a black, hooded sweatshirt, and black sandals.

 

The NYPD said the incident was originally being investigated as a criminal mischief hate crime. Norwood News had asked what in particular had caused the incident to be classified as such and the the department subsequently said that no bias was found finally in connection to the incident.

Year-to-date hate crimes in the 52nd Precinct, which also covers some or parts of Bedford Park, Fordham, Kingsbridge, Bronx Park and University Heights, are down 50 percent.

 

Meanwhile, according to the NYPD, the number of citywide hate crime incidents investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force decreased by 35% in August.
