Police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old woman inside a residential building in the Norwood section of The Bronx.

They said that on Thursday, Oct. 23, at around 4.39 p.m. police responded to a 911 call for a wellness check at 115 East Mosholu Parkway North, within the confines of the 52nd Precinct. (The 52nd Precinct Community Council meeting took place later that evening a short distance away at 7 p.m.)

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a 53-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive,” a police spokesperson said. “EMS responded and pronounced the aided female deceased on scene.” Police said there are no arrests at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.

They said the Office of the City’s Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Norwood News asked if the death was being treated as suspicious and we were informed that the investigation is still ongoing.

Police said the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending proper family notification.

We spoke to a number of neighbors, none of whom heard any arguing, gunshots or any other type of ruckus, they said. They offered their condolences to their neighbor and said it was sad news.

One woman we spoke to, who was entering and later exiting the building who said she does not live there and was visiting a friend, said her friend who does live there told her the Super had allegedly told him a man had allegedly been staying in the apartment where the deceased woman was found for a few days prior to her death.

We tried to reach the Super to verify this claim but were unsuccessful. We also asked the NYPD and they said it was too early to confirm at this point. We cannot corroborate the veracity of this detail therefore.

According to a police source, a person of interest was being questioned as of Thursday night, Oct. 23. However, as of the morning of Oct. 24, there was no further official update. We will share any additional information we receive.

A number of what looked to be FDNY units but which may ultimately may have been EMS units were seen responding to the same general area of Norwood just before 7 p.m. We asked residents if there had been a fire in the building and they said not to their knowledge.
