Police had cordoned off the crime scene around Bedford Convenience Store, located at Bedford Park Blvd and Villa Avenue, and blood stains were seen just inside the door of the business on Thursday evening.
Norwood News spoke to several business owners / employees in the neighborhood, but nobody saw the shooting and most said they were busy at the time it occurred.

We spoke to two employees who work in the area about security generally. Speaking in Spanish, one said, “We worry that these types of things happen in the neighborhood, because for about one year and a bit, nothing like this has happened. It’s been a fairly safe area but lately, the new buildings on Villa Avenue that have gone up has brought this type of people.” We asked what he meant exactly.
He said it had become more dangerous. We asked if the people he was referring to had mental health issues to his knowledge. He said, “I imagine, but I don’t know. They seem normal.” We asked if the referenced residents were unemployed and he said, “yes.”
A married, middle-aged couple who own a business on the block and who declined to be identified, said they used to see more police both on foot and in vehicles patrolling the area in the years prior to the pandemic.
The woman said at that time they would see police coming into their store between two and six times a day, as customers but that this is no longer the case. “So you can tell how many times they pass by,” she said.
“It feels more comfortable to see police around you. If anything happens, it’s easy to call” she said, adding that once in the past, prior to the pandemic, her store was robbed and the police were across the street. She said she followed the thief out of the store and began shouting and because the police were nearby, they heard her and the person was apprehended quickly.

“I didn’t even have to report,” the woman said. “They saw him. Now, it’s a little bit scary. You call the police, it takes like from one to two hours they come here.” She said she believes thieves know this and have said to her as they steal items from her store, “If I don’t pay, what are you going to do? Call the police.”
She said they know they can run away before the police arrive. Asked if they are armed, she said, “No, regular people. I never see armed people stealing here.” Asked what type of items they are stealing and if it’s food, perhaps, due to hunger, she said it’s never food but usually young people stealing drinks like Monster or Red Bull or beer.
Asked how many, she said sometimes it could be 12 cans because they hide them throughout their body and then re-sell them. “They don’t steal bread or anything to eat,” she said. Her husband then said that sometimes young people attempt to sell the drinks to the store or to other stores but they never buy them.

He said once his wife ran after a thief with a six-pack of beer, and caught him without help from the police. Asked if she had been scared, he smiled and said she was brave. His wife said she hoped the gunshot victim would recover well.
Asked if they had witnessed fighting among young people in the area, the woman said, “Very rarely.” She said since July 2025, they haven’t seen much fighting but during the pandemic, she witnessed a lot of it. She added that they used to close around midnight but now they’re closing earlier at around 8.30 or 9 p.m.
Speaking in Spanish, another worker in a nearby restaurant said she had seen, last summer, a couple physically fighting in the Bedford Convenience Store, where the shooting took place, and that it made her feel on edge. She said she lived close by and now, with the shooting, said she was even more hesitant to frequent the store.
