Jerome Avenue Men’s Shelter Client Charged in Brooklyn Sex Attack

  NYPD detectives from Brooklyn have arrested a man charged with beating and sexually assaulting a woman in Brooklyn on June 7, who they say had been a resident at the Jerome Avenue Men’s Shelter (JAMS) located on Jerome Avenue in Norwood.   Police say the 51-year-old victim was inside a building in the vicinity of Bradford Street and Pitkin Avenue in Brooklyn, when she “was pushed down a flight of stairs,” causing her to sustain a fractured eye socket, a fractured jaw, and broken ribs.   The assailant later allegedly forced his victim to perform a sex act, before

UPDATE D.C. Police Arrest Suspected Gunman Targeting Homeless in NYC & D.C.

The Washington Metropolitan Police announced on Twitter on Tuesday morning that they have arrested a suspect sought for the shooting of various homeless people in New York City and Washington D.C. The news was also confirmed by the NYPD in a tweet on Tuesday.   The NYPD had been asking the public’s assistance identifying the man seen in the attached photos who is wanted for questioning in connection with two shooting incidents that occurred in Manhattan in the 1st and 5th precincts. Norwood: Shelter Resident Arrested following Assault as Homelessness Debate Continues

Police report a man was assaulted in the Norwood section of The Bronx on Sunday at the Jerome Avenue Men’s Shelter (JAMS), and another man has been arrested in connection with the incident.   An NYPD spokesperson told Norwood News the assault was reported at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 6, at 3600 Jerome Avenue, the address for JAMS. “A 45-year-old male victim claims that he received a laceration to the lip inside a cafeteria because he was punched,” the spokesperson said. “Then, he lost a tooth. Nonprofit Run by Teens Helps City’s Homeless

  A new generation of nonprofit organizations are lending a hand to help with homelessness in the city. Some are even being led by passionate twenty-somethings, and one was founded by a teenager not yet old enough to vote.   SustainABLE Start is run by more than 80 high-schoolers across the country. Jerome Avenue Men’s Shelter Residents Quietly Move to Four-Star Manhattan Hotel Amid Pandemic

The residents of a 200-bed men’s homeless shelter in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx were quietly moved and are currently being housed at a four-star hotel in Manhattan due to concerns over coronavirus transmission. City Takes Steps to Improve Safety at Shelter. But Where’s the Data?

Peace officers trained by the NYPD have been assigned at the Jerome Avenue Men’s Shelter (JAMS), but it’s unclear whether it has made a difference since city data provided shows an overall decline of crime around shelters in the Bronx.
