Police arrested a registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal history and charged him with raping, assaulting and robbing a female worker at a laundromat on Webster Avenue in Bedford Park.

Bronx Parents on Edge After Attempted Luring at PS 33

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare. Fortunately, this time, it didn’t come true. As an 8-year-old girl was walking to her school building at PS 33 in University Heights on Thursday, Feb. 21, police say a man attempted to lure her into coming away with him.

Three Torahs Stolen From Norwood Synagogue

Three Torah scrolls, each worth $45,000, were stolen recently from the Young Israel Synagogue of Mosholu Parkway, a temple with dwindling membership on East 208th Street in Norwood, according to police.

Bronx Crime Watch: Kingsbridge Road Car/Baby Jacking Suspect Caught on Video

Yesterday, police released this video of man suspected of stealing a car on Kingsbridge Road that happened to contain a 7-month-old baby. The baby was found safe and sound near the corner of Jerome Avenue and Gobles Place but police are still looking for the suspect and are asking for help in identifying and locating him.

Bronx Cousins Found Murdered Inside Car in Norwood

A man and a woman, cousins who lived at different ends of the Bronx, were found murdered early this morning inside of a car on Perry Avenue in Norwood. Just after midnight, after receiving a report of a person shot, police say they discovered both Jason Rivera, 30, and Jennifer Rivera, 20, with gunshot wounds to the head. They were both inside of a vehicle in front of 3328 Perry Ave., which is about a block south of East Gun Hill Road.

Crime Watch: Webb Ave. Armed Robbery

Officers from the 52nd Precinct were called to 2500 Webb Ave. after an armed robbery was reported on Dec. 27. The victim said the suspect produced a silver firearm at just before 2:45 p.m. and took the victim’s cell phone. Police were looking for the armed bandit, described as a male Black, 6 feet tall and dressed in all black.

Judge Deals Blow to NYPD Stop-and-Frisk Strategy

On Tuesday morning, a U.S. District Court judge dealt a significant blow to the NYPD’s controversial stop-and-frisk strategy, ruling that for years police officers have violated the rights of residents at private buildings in the Bronx under auspices of the Operation Clean Halls program.

The Year in Crime: Murders Down, Robberies Up, Police in Spotlight

The year began remarkably well for police in the 52nd Precinct, which encompasses the Norwood News’ primary coverage area. Early on in 2012, investigators went to great lengths, including a trip to North Carolina, to track down two suspects wanted for the murder of 59-year-old Bimal Chanda, a Bengladeshi man who was beaten to death in his University Heights apartment, apparently during an early morning robbery, in late October of 2011.
