Fordham Heights: Fire on 10th Floor of Building, Three Injured

  The Fire Department of New York reported that on Jul. 8, 2020 at 5:04 p.m., emergency services were alerted to a fire on the tenth floor of a ten-story building, at 2332 Tiebout Avenue in the Fordham Heights section of the Bronx.     The incident was brought under control at 5:39 p.m. with a total of three civilian injuries, all of whom were treated at the scene, and there were no subsequent hospital transfers. The cause of the fire is under investigation.   Norwood News is following up with the FDNY on the cause of the fire.  

Riverdale: Police Search for Missing 71-Year-Old Man

Police are searching for a missing 71-year-old man since around 6:00 a.m. on Jul. 9, 2020. He is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, having salt-and-pepper hair, and was reportedly last seen wearing a beige shirt and beige shorts.   Police have requested additional units to the scene to aid in the search.   Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Fordham: NYPD Appeal to Identify Individuals in Connection With Burglary

  The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individuals depicted in the attached photographs in connection to a commercial burglary which took place within the confines of the 52nd precinct.   On Wednesday, Jul. 8, 2020 at approximately 3:37 a.m., inside 263 East Fordham Road (Foot Action), four males gained entry to the location by forcibly breaking the rear door lock. Montefiore Launches Cash Assistance Program for COVID-19 Bereaved Families in Financial Distress

Households who lost a breadwinner or caregiver to COVID-19 may be eligible for emergency cash assistance, through the Montefiore Family Resilience Fund supported by the Robin Hood Foundation. Mayor Outlines Additional Plans to Reopen NYC Schools for 2020-2021 Academic Year

On Wednesday, Jul. 8, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard A. Carranza announced additional preliminary plans for school reopening in September, assuming the City continues to meet all necessary COVID-19 public health thresholds.   According to a City press release, the plan was driven first and foremost by the health and safety of school communities. Apparent Four-Car Collision at Jerome Ave & Bedford Pk Blvd, Two People Hospitalized
