We’ll post some election day links and check in at some polling sites in the northwest Bronx throughout the day. But first, some need-to-know info on this election day. Good luck to everyone, especially those attempting to participate while overcoming storm-related obstacles.

Afternoon Fire Breaks Out at Historic Bronx Theater

Firefighters are continuing to monitor a fire that broke out this afternoon at the historic Loew’s Paradise Theater on the Grand Concourse. While the blaze is mostly under control, fire officials say they want to make sure it isn’t roaming inside the theater’s walls.

Bronx Photos: For The Eyes After The Storm

Although the Bronx was not hit as bad as Zone A sections of Brooklyn, Long Island, Lower Manhattan, and Queens, we did experienced our share of damages due to high winds that caused trees to collapse on cars, homes and power lines. Free Mass Transit! And Other Post-Storm Bronx Udates

I took the photo above on my way to work this morning. It’s Homeland Security vehicle trailing a long caravan of emergency vehicles from federal agencies like Homeland Security, FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Even saw one from the Maryland Urban Search and Rescue unit. It’s a reminder that the northwest Bronx was extremely fortunate during Sandy’s surge into the northweast and that there is still a lot of work to be done in our region’s most damaged areas. Here’s a quick look at where we’re at three days after:

NW Bronx Storm Aftermath Update (Halloween Edition)

Happy Halloween to all our readers in the Bronx! Just be glad you don’t live on the Jersey Shore or lower Manhattan right now. Quick storm update here as we attempt to produce this week’s print edition of the Norwood News and find a place to print it. Our regular printer, out on Long Island, is currently without power. In any case, we will get the news out one way or another!

NW Bronx Storm Aftermath, Tuesday, 11:15 a.m. (Schools Closed Through Wednesday)

In the aftermath of Storm Sandy, it appears the northwest Bronx has emerged relatively unscathed compared to other parts of the region. Though a few thousand customers remain without power and there are some downed trees, this part of the Bronx did not suffer from any of the flooding problems that has devastated some of the city’s coastal areas, including those in the east Bronx.
