Remembering Lydia ‘Nena’ Stephen, ‘Warrior Princess’
Lydia Stephens, otherwise known as “Nena,” the brave 10-year-old Bronx girl profiled in the Nov. 29-Dec. 12 print edition of the Norwood News, died last night after a long fight against cancer. She will be missed. Below are some of the comments generated on this website after we posted her story online. Crime Watch: Another Murder on Decatur
Early Sunday morning, police responded to a 911 call of a male shot in front of 3089 Decatur Avenue, just south of East 204th Street in Norwood. Upon arrival, officers found 46-year-old Gary Rodriguez with a gunshot wound to the torso.
Emergency Service workers took Rodriguez to Montefiore Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. There have been no arrests made and police say the investigation is ongoing.
Strong Crowd Comes Out to ‘Save’ Clinton High School
School spirit was loud and clear last Thursday night when students, teachers, alumni and members of the community rallied together to “save” DeWitt Clinton High School after the Department of Education handed the school its second consecutive “F” on its 2011-2012 progress report, which could lead to major changes at the school or possible closure.
