Previewing State of the Borough By JUSTIN MCCALLUM Feb. 20 marks Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.’s fifth State of the Borough Address. By DAVID CRUZ It’s been four years since Madaha Kinsey-Lamb, founder of Mind-Builders Creative Arts Center, has had to briefly say goodbye to the site that served as the after school program’s headquarters for decades. These days, she’s settling back in. The time away has paid off dramatically. The after school program, aimed at unleashing the creative juices of young people for 37 years, recently relocated back to its original headquarters following a massive $10 million top-to-bottom renovation. The work has reinvigorated the pre-existing space while revamping two formerly unused floors within the four-story building. The program has now left

by David Greene For two weeks Norwood residents have taken to social media websites as well as phoning 311 and local elected officials to complain about unpaved streets and ice covered sidewalks Residents began to complain after vehicles were becoming stuck on streets that had small patches of ice appearing as though the road were partially cleared. PlowNYC, a multi-million dollar city program that outfitted snow-plows with GPS tracking devices, showed that the street’s in question–Decatur and Hull avenues between E. Mosholu Parkway and E. 204 Street, Kossuth Avenue between E. 208th Street and Mosholu Parkway, and Tryon Avenue at East Gun Hill Road–had all been cleared.

Bedford-Mosholu Assoc. Gears Up For Flea Market

by Paolo Mossetti A community association is accepting knickknacks, trinkets and all sorts of unused items from area residents, all for a good cause. The Bedford-Mosholu Community Association is now accepting recycled goods for its 33rd annual Flea Market scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 8th at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church at 360 Bedford Park Blvd. “We collect new and used items, except clothing,” said Barbara Stronczer, the group’s longtime lead organizer, explaining that the venue has no space for “people who can try on the items.”

Another Snowstorm Set To Pound The Bronx

It’s deja vu over, and over, and over again! The Bronx is poised to get several inches of snow on top of the graying snow this Thursday as another system slowly lumbers up to the Boogie Down. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that’s in effect from 6pm Wednesday to Valentine’s Day, predicting 6 inches of snow in total. High honors went out to members of the NYPD, FDNY and Department of Sanitation for their efforts in improving the quality of life along Wakefield’s bustling commercial spur. They were honored Friday, Jan. 31 by the Mosholu Preservation Corporation and East 233rd Street/White Plains Road Merchants Association, thanking the agencies for promoting safety and cleanliness along the commercial spur while forging team efforts.
