Nine people have incurred non life-threatening injuries following a multiple vehicle accident on the Bronx River Parkway in Olinville.

On Saturday, June 19, at around 7.36 p.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a motor vehicle collision on Bronx River Parkway (southbound lane) in the vicinity of East 219th Street, located in the 47th precinct.

After a preliminary investigation, police said a female driver told officers she had been driving a 2020 Honda (Vehicle #3) in the far right parkway lane, and had been attempting to change lanes into the middle lane when a second vehicle recklessly cut in front of the lane of travel, causing her to rear end a 2021 Honda (Vehicle #2), which then caused Vehicle #2 to rear-end a 2015 Lexus (Vehicle #1).

The female driver of Vehicle #3, who provided the above-mentioned explanation of events, was transferred by EMS to Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in a stable condition. She was traveling with a 12-year-old boy passenger, a 10-year-old boy passenger, a 7-year-old girl passenger, an 11-year-old boy passenger, and a 28-year-old man.

The driver of Vehicle #2, the 2021 Honda, was a 54-year-old woman, who was taken by EMS to Bronx Municipal Hospital Center in a stable condition. She was traveling with a 19-year-old male passenger. The driver of Vehicle #1, the 2015 Lexus, was a 66-year-old man, who refused medical attention at the scene.

Norwood News has asked police to clarify that the vehicle that allegedly recklessly cut in front of Vehicle #3 was neither Vehicle #1 nor Vehicle #2, and will update this story upon receipt of further information.

The incident was also reported on the Citizen’s App on June 19 at 7:47 p.m. Users noted that police, firefighters and EMS had all arrived at the scene.

FDNY later confirmed separately to the Norwood News that none of the victims’ injuries were considered life-threatening.
