October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and a number of events have been organized across The Bronx, which has one of the highest rates per head of population of domestic violence in New York City, to raise awareness of the issue. From July 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2021, The Bronx recorded 797 chronic domestic violence complaints, compared to 429 in Manhattan, 598 in Queens, 183 in Staten Island, and 815 in Brooklyn.

Those working in both law enforcement and directly with survivors of domestic violence say incidents are generally under-reported.

These included the Annual Bronx 5K Walk/Run/Roll hosted by the Office of the Bronx District Attorney, which took place on Saturday, Oct. 15.
