Mt. Hope: Police Release Additional Photo of Alleged Suspect Sought in Homicide Investigation

The NYPD released an additional photo of a suspect on Monday who they say is wanted in connection with a murder that occurred in August in the Mt. Hope section of The Bronx.

 

Police said that on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at around 8.15 a.m., police responded to a 911 call regarding a person who had been shot in the vicinity of East 176th Street and Anthony Avenue.

 

“Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 32-year-old male had been shot in the back by an unidentified individual,” a police spokesperson said. “The individual fled the location in an unknown direction. EMS responded and transported the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.”

Police and detectives from the 46th Precinct had previously released other photos of the suspect and had asked for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

 

They said he was described as male, has a dark complexion, is around 50, has a medium build, and was last seen wearing a black, hoodie sweater, black pants, and blue sneakers.

 

On Aug. 26, the deceased was identified as Clay Monsanto, 32, from the Mt. Hope section of The Bronx. On Oct. 20, pursuant to an ongoing investigation, the NYPD said detectives submitted additional media of the alleged suspect who they have since identified as Evaristo Melendez, 47, from the Mt. Hope section of The Bronx.
