DeWitt Clinton High School, St. Catherine’s Academy, and 31 other New York City high schools will be taking part in the newly launched Rewarding Achievement (REACH) program.
REACH, started by The Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) and funded with $1 million by the Pershing Square Foundation will reward high achieving minority students in urban areas.
The program will give students $1,000 for an AP exam score of 5, $750 for a score of 4, and $500 for an AP score of 3. Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera and members of the NYS Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus support the CUP in their initiative.
"The REACH program rewards excellence and is teaching our youth that there is no limit to the things they can accomplish," Rivera said in a statement. "I am pleased that there are two schools in our district participating in this program. Myself and the members of the caucus plan hard to expand this program to all schools throughout New York City."
