A 24-year-old man has been hospitalized following a stabbing in Fordham Manor, a few hundred feet from the Kingsbridge Armory, police said.

An NYPD spokesperson said they received a call at around 3.30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, adding that the man had been stabbed multiple times in the torso. The spokesperson said the victim was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in Belmont and is stable.

Norwood News was informed by police that the victim was highly uncooperative in relation to the investigation. Police are leaning towards investigating a dispute among a group of people.

Norwood News spoke to several people at local businesses in the area on Friday evening and asked if they had seen the incident. A woman at Tammy Care Pharmacy said she saw a group of youths running along Jerome Avenue at one point on the opposite side of the avenue to  where the pharmacy is located (St. James Park side), but did not know what happened. She said she saw the police and an ambulance arrive later.

Another business owner in a restaurant located on the other side of Jerome Avenue (on the St. James Park side) said she was in the back of the store at the time and didn’t see anything. Another restaurant worker in another nearby business on the same side of the street said a girl came in to buy some water after the incident and called 911. The woman said she also saw a lot of commotion outside but didn’t know what had happened.

Another woman standing outside Jacky’s International Unisex hair salon told Norwood News she had been inside the salon getting her hair done when the assault took place. “I was witnessing a fight,” she said. “I saw the young man get thrown right here,” she added, gesturing to the hair salon storefront wall. “I did not see anything. I seen ’em run down the block but after that, he was gone.” Asked if she could describe the victim, she said, “I didn’t see his face.”

Asked if the victim had gotten up after he was thrown down, the woman said, “I was turned around [in her salon chair] but I believe so. I was getting my hair done so they turned me around to finish doing my hair.”

Later, another woman inside the salon said they all ran into the back when the commotion started outside. She said she didn’t see what the victim looked like, adding she just saw a bunch of people, and she didn’t know how many there were or how old they were. She said she usually keeps the door of the salon locked, but it was open as someone was exiting at the time the assault took place. She said she saw the police arrive but didn’t really see anything after that.

We asked if it was usual to have trouble in the neighborhood and the woman just said there were often young people hanging around the area after school or around McDonalds.

As reported, two people had been sought following an evening shooting in July 2023 that took place in the vicinity of St. James Park a week before another multiple shooting took place in roughly the same area, in which four people, including two kids were injured, causing widespread shock among the community.

The latter incident had taken place a few days after a peace barbecue was held on the block hosted by Bronx Rises Against Gun Violence cure violence group. Two people were initially arrested in relation to the latter incident.

As also reported, in June 2024, a large tree branch fell fell inside St. James Park, sending kids and a mom with a stroller running to avoid injury.

Meanwhile, the NYPD is celebrating what was described as an incredible record whereby the department recently tied for the longest stretch without a homicide in the City. “New York City went 12 calendar days without a homicide, tying the record for the longest stretch without a homicide in recorded history, which was set in 2015,” police said, adding the timeframe was from Nov. 25 to Dec. 7, ending at around 9 p.m.

They shared other citywide statistics as of Dec. 1, saying during the first 11 months of the year, New York City had the lowest number of shooting incidents and victims in recorded history. They said for the month of November, murders were also at the lowest level in recorded history with 16 murders, tying the previous record set in 2018.

They went on to say that in November, there were no murders in all of Queens and Staten Island, and that, overall, murder was down 46.6% in November 2025 compared to November 2024. They said that since the inception of the “Fall Zones,” shootings were down “a staggering 40%” in those zones during deployment hours. Some recent Bronx crime statistics are attached for the borough as a whole.

An NYPD spokesperson explained that its Fall Violence Reduction Plan is a a data-driven, precision-policing strategy to combat violent crime and shootings. The plan consists of 54 zones covering 38 communities, with up to 1,800 uniformed officers assigned to nightly foot posts in precincts, public housing, and the subway system.

New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said of the record, “Right strategy, great execution; that’s how you set record after record. Thank you to the members of the NYPD who have sacrificed so much this year to drive down violent crime to record lows.”
