Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Tuesday, Aug. 19, that a Bronx man and his mother have been charged with first-degree murder and additional charges for torturing and killing a Rhode Island woman in the Fordham Heights section of The Bronx.

“The victim was allegedly tortured by her ex-boyfriend for a week before he ultimately killed her,” Clark said. “His mother allegedly helped cover his heinous actions by cleaning up the carnage he left in their home. The mother and son are now both indicted for murder.”

Clark said the defendants, Robert Stother, 27, (pictured) and his mother, Naida Jorge, 54, both of 2295 Grand Concourse in Fordham Heights, were indicted on two counts of first-degree murder. second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, concealment of a human corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and first-degree hindering prosecution.

She said both were arraigned on Aug. 18, by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Darlene Goldberg and were remanded in custody. Their next court appearance is scheduled for November 2025.

According to the investigation, on July 11, the victim, Princesa Encarnacion Soto, 21, began communicating with Stother, her ex-boyfriend on social media and went to visit him in his Bronx home. From July 14 to July 22, the defendant allegedly tied Soto up with rope, repeatedly hit her with a hammer, and slashed her all about the body.

On July 22, as reported, the victim’s severely beaten body was recovered from the stairwell of 2295 Grand Concourse. On the same day, residents of the building reported seeing Jorge carrying multiple garbage bags. The investigation found the bags allegedly contained rope, pillows, towels, and sheets covered in blood. Jorge later allegedly told a neighbor to call police about the victim’s body in the stairwell.
