District Council 9 (DC9) is conducting a formal Glazier apprentice recruitment drive, which began Jan. 30. The drive will be conducted at the union’s training center in Long Island City and will cover the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and New York City regions, and will last through Feb. 12.

Officials from DC 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York said the Institute offers apprentices on-the-job and in-classroom training to ensure every apprentice is prepared to tackle what they said is the complex building market. They said DC 9 apprenticeships offer New Yorkers a pathway to a stable career with family-sustaining wages and benefits.

They said, as above, the recruitment will take place over a ten-day period or until 500 applications are distributed, whichever comes first. Applications will be distributed in person on a first-come, first-served basis at the DC 9 Finishing Trades Institute of New York training facility.

“District Council 9 is committed to creating real opportunities for our community members through our union apprenticeship programs,” said Joseph Azzopardi, business manager/secretary treasurer. “This Glazier recruitment opens the door to comprehensive training, valuable technical skills, and good union wages. It gives hardworking New Yorkers the chance to master a specialized craft, secure a long-term career, and join the skilled union workforce that builds our city.”
