So who was the big winner of tax reform? The lower class taxpayer? The middle class? The wealthy? Small businesses? Big businesses? Grandparents? Children? Well, some yes and some no were some winners but the big, big, big winner is the same as it’s been for the last 20 years: Big banks and big tax preparation service firms. How? Activists from numerous youth-based groups gathered at Fordham Plaza, addressing issues impacting Bronx’s youth, while also calling on funding to help further their causes. The gun was unmistakable to plainclothes officers from the 52nd Precinct. They just didn’t expect to see it in the waistband of a 13-year-old boy the evening of April 9. But it happened in the area of East 182nd Street and Jerome Avenue in Fordham Heights at the tip of the Five-Two’s jurisdiction abutting the 46th Precinct. The race for the 15th Congressional District seat may be more than a year away, but it’s already the hottest political ticket, with another politico jumping into the race. Assemblyman Michael Blake, the 79th Assembly District representative for the West Bronx and the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, announced a run for the seat, which will be left vacant by the long-time officeholder, Congressman Jose Serrano. Lehman College Professor Tied to St. Patrick's Cathedral Incident

A Lehman College professor was arrested for what appears to be an attempted arson on St. Patrick’s Cathedral. News of the arrest came days after the spire of Notre Dame Cathedral in France went up in flames. Authorities arrested Marc Lamparello, 37, a philosophy professor who taught online courses for the school in Bedford Park. He was charged with resisting arrest, trespass and disorderly conduct. A Bronx man is headed to jail for admitting to killing a deli worker using a police officer’s gun. Effrain Guzman was sentenced to 20 years to life for shooting the deli worker at A&M Deli at the corner of East 198th Street and Valentine Avenue on Aug. 9, 2016.
