Bronx Photos: For The Eyes After The Storm

Although the Bronx was not hit as bad as Zone A sections of Brooklyn, Long Island, Lower Manhattan, and Queens, we did experienced our share of damages due to high winds that caused trees to collapse on cars, homes and power lines. The images in this slideshow were taken in the aftermath of of Storm Sandy by Bronxites and the Norwood News team, including Diana Perez, David Greene, Danilka Infante, Brittney Jackson and Alex Kratz. Free Mass Transit! And Other Post-Storm Bronx Udates

I took the photo above on my way to work this morning. It’s Homeland Security vehicle trailing a long caravan of emergency vehicles from federal agencies like Homeland Security, FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers. Even saw one from the Maryland Urban Search and Rescue unit. NW Bronx Storm Aftermath Update (Halloween Edition)

Happy Halloween to all our readers in the Bronx! Just be glad you don’t live on the Jersey Shore or lower Manhattan right now. Quick storm update here as we attempt to produce this week’s print edition of the Norwood News and find a place to print it. Our regular printer, out on Long Island, is currently without power. In any case, we will get the news out one way or another!

NW Bronx Storm Aftermath, Tuesday, 11:15 a.m. (Schools Closed Through Wednesday)

In the aftermath of Storm Sandy, it appears the northwest Bronx has emerged relatively unscathed compared to other parts of the region. Though a few thousand customers remain without power and there are some downed trees, this part of the Bronx did not suffer from any of the flooding problems that has devastated some of the city’s coastal areas, including those in the east Bronx.

Zombie Virus Outbreak at the ‘Bronx Haunted Warehouse’

This just in: A mutating zombie virus has contaminated a small section of the Bronx and is threatening to take over all of New York City. At the moment, all those infected are quarantined safely within the walls of a scary-looking warehouse on Commerce Avenue in the southeast Bronx. The public, or at least those brave enough, is welcome to come and see for themselves the severity of this virus. But, of course, they must enter at their own risk. No one is liable for any zombie bites, scratches or missing children.

Bronx News Roundup, Oct. 25

Welcome back to the Bronx News Roundup. Here are the Bronx-related stories we’re following today. This story sounds like something you’d see on TV cop show: An off-duty police officer who lives in University Heights was shot in the chest after stopping to intervene in a robbery, then ended up shooting one of the suspected robbers in the head (killing him) while bleeding from his wound.
