Past and present faces of the Norwood News came to break bread and hail the paper’s 30-year milestone with a celebration at Lehman College on Nov. 1. The event drew roughly 130 guests to the college’s Faculty Dining Room in the Music Building, which included an awards program and keynote address by Errol Louis of NY1. Opening the ceremony was Jennifer Tausig, executive director of Mosholu Preservation Corporation (MPC), the not-for-profit that produces the Norwood News. Latin pop icon Gloria Estefan came to DeWitt Clinton High School on Oct. 30 to talk about an urban farming program she hopes to export to her hometown of Miami. The Norwood campus has the largest student-run hydroponic farm in New York City, supported in part by Teens for Food Justice, a New York-based non-profit. Estefan is working with Teens for Food Justice to bring the program to public schools in Miami. “I can envision this growing. I can only imagine how great it would be if all our public schools had some kind of [urban farming program],” Estefan said.

Starting tomorrow, the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) will be hosting a weeklong series of free events that encourages parents who’ve lost a child to embrace their memory. The series is part of Re-imagine End of Life, a citywide initiative that aims to help families who have struggled with the loss of a child, and offer guidance in dealing with the complexities of life, death, and remembering lost loved ones.
