Amid Legionnaires’ Cases, Health Official Reassures Tracey Towers Residents

After delivering notices of a second resident contracting Legionnaires’ disease at 20 W. Mosholu Pkwy. S. within the last 12 months, an official from the city Department of Health (DOH) told concerned residents that testing for the bacteria will soon take place. At a meeting Tuesday night inside the building’s community room, Ricky Wong, director of Community Affairs at DOH, informed the tenants of the department’s plan to start testing the building’s water for the bacteria. Legionnaires’ Disease Found at Tracey Towers

The city Department of Health (DOH) is investigating how two people contracted Legionnaires’ Disease in the Bronx’s largest Mitchell-Lama properties, the Norwood News has learned. A meeting is now being scheduled tonight to discuss the investigation. DOH staffers slipped notices underneath the apartment doors of tenants living in Tracey Towers, specifically 20 W. Mosholu Pkwy. Bronx Opioid Crisis, Still Problematic, Gets State Senate’s Attention

Officials from the New York City Health Department announced a three percent decrease in overdose deaths from 2017 to 2018. But of the 1,444 overdose deaths citywide, the Bronx saw an increase with 391 in 2018, an eight percent increase, designating it as the only borough with more than 300 overdose deaths in 2018, continuing the unbreakable trend of opioid-related fatalities. Norwood residents came out on Aug. 21 for the annual Back-to-School Health Fair courtesy of North Central Bronx Hospital (NCBH). SEE PHOTOS: Sports Jam at Williamsbridge Oval Park

The New York City Parks Department hosted its annual Summer Sports Experience Jamboree, an all-day event on Aug. 14 that allowed kids around the Bronx to sample a variety of sports including basketball, softball, soccer, field hockey, track & field, hurdles, and wheelchair basketball. At the Oval, tried out a litany of sports but also had the chance to check out the bounce house and a play mobile.
