Open Storefronts Program Launches following Success of Open Restaurants

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Wednesday, Oct. 28, the Open Storefronts program, permitting storefront businesses to use a portion of their sidewalk to display merchandise, sell goods, complete transactions, and provide queuing areas. The program will begin on Friday, Oct. 30 and will run until Dec 31.   The Open Storefronts program assists existing ground-floor storefront businesses who want to use outdoor areas on a temporary basis. Fordham Manor: Tenants Go Without Gas for Almost One Year

Last November, residents living at 2558 Grand Concourse were unable to cook a Thanksgiving dinner on their stoves because the gas service was cut off by Con Edison. Bedford Park: 62-Year-Old Man Stabbed, Dies

Police responded to a 911 call on Thursday, Oct. 22, at around 7 p.m. regarding a man who had been stabbed in front of 380 East Bedford Park Boulevard, within the confines of the 52nd precinct.   Upon arrival, officers observed a 62-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive, with a stab wound to the lower back. EMS responded and transported the man to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.   The deceased has been identified as Kevin Smith, 62, of 2960 Decatur Avenue, The Bronx.
