Proposed EMS Charging Station to Cut Emissions

Expected to take a little over one full parking space, and reduce the emission of fossil fuels contributing to pollution, the FDNY looks to install an ambulance charging station on the corner of Sedgwick Avenue and East Fordham Road in Kingsbridge. It’s now received the backing from Community Board 7 representing the Kingsbridge area where the proposed station will be installed. Far from the commonly known charging station, this station allows paramedics to turn off their EMS engine while remaining to a power source. Before then, EMS buses needed to stay on so the medicine inside the ambulance stayed cool

Proposed Norwood Shelter Edges Closer to Relocation

After months of complaints that later inspired a protest, the proposed homeless shelter on Webster Avenue is closer to being moved to the former Federation Employment and Guidance Service (FEGS) building at 3600 Jerome Ave. Meantime, Eduardo Laguerre, CEO of a non-for-profit that looks to put a shelter at the property on 3041 Webster Ave., is not happy with the public outcry. Laguerre, who operates Neighborhood Association for Intercultural Affairs (NAICA), had his sights on Webster Avenue, currently Sam’s Floor Covering, to build a shelter. Vote on Jerome Avenue Rezoning Delayed Until Nov. 27

The next leg of the public review process for the complex Jerome Avenue Rezoning plan has been pushed until Nov. 27, eleven days after its original date. The Bronx Borough Board, a panel made up of all Bronx community board chairs and their district managers, was expected to convene on Nov. 16 to discuss the plan. The large panel, headed by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., is part of the southwest Bronx proposal’s public review process. Bronx Locals Sound Off at Civilian Complaint Review Board

Bronx locals came to Bronx Community College on Nov. 9 to tell the Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) that more Officer Friendlies are needed on the force. The 13-member CCRB, which handles and investigates complaints made against NYPD officers, convened at the Bronx to hear concerns by residents. Among its chief demand is a more understanding Police Department. In some instances, CCRB members heard from alleged victims of police abuse who have reported being thrown to the ground by police for no apparent reason. The CCRB has found 59 percent of complaints have to deal with officers being extremely rude

New St. Philip Neri Principal a Familiar Face in Norwood

In the space of five minutes, Ajeia Beebe, new principal at St. Philip Neri Catholic School in Bedford Park, escorted a timid student out of a classroom, received a hearty “good morning Mrs. Beebe” from uniformed children walking down the hallway, and gave a top-down tour of the 104-year-old school. It’s been almost two months since Beebe came to the school, and she’s already feeling at home. In many ways, she is. It helps that a number of her old students at the school she’s previously worked at have now transferred to St. Philip Neri, making for a smooth transition.
