Bronx Notes: CB7 Parks & Rec Meeting

Community Board 7’s Parks and Recreation committee will meet tonight, Thursday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the board office, 229A E. 204th St. CB7 is contiguous with the Norwood News’ primary coverage area and includes the neighborhoods of Fordham, Kingsbridge Heights, University Heights, Bedford Park and Norwood. Violent Crimes Rock Northwest Bronx

A murder, two shootings and a stabbing in recent days have shaken the northwest Bronx, which is already reeling from a string of brutal robberies that caused the commander of the 52nd Precinct to call in for reinforcements.

Be Healthy: BP, Hospitals Tout Tour de Bronx Benefits

On Monday afternoon, Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz joined forces with Transportation Alternatives, Montefiore Medical Center, St. Barnabas Hospital and the Bronx Lebanon Medical Center to officially let the world know that the 18th annual Tour de Bronx — the region’s largest free cycling event — will be happening and it will be a good thing for a borough that was recently named the most unhealthy county in the state.

New Manager of Local Bronx Parks Worked Her Way Up

After seven years with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn resident Tannise Palmer has been named the Parks manager for Districts 7 and 8. The 7th district includes the Norwood News’ coverage area and parks such as Williamsbridge Oval, St. James and Poe Park.

Bronx Notes: Sickle Cell Awareness Fair on Saturday

The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore is hosting a Sickle Cell Awareness Month event and fair for families with children living with sickle cell disease on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Cherkasky Auditiorium inside Montefiore’s Moses Campus (at the Gun Hill Road entrance near Rochambeau Avenue). Learn about: managing your pain, new treatments for sickle cell pain, what is safe and with is not, alternative therapies, staying healthy. Lunch will be served.
