Crime Watch: Man Murdered on Decatur Ave. in Norwood

On Saturday afternoon, at about 1:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a male shot inside 3347 Decatur Ave. When they arrived, they discovered Jesus Avando, 26, with a bullet wound in his head. Avando, who lived at 3347 Decatur Ave., was pronounced dead at the scene. The Decatur building is located between East 209th Street and East Gun Hill Road.

“FELA KUTI: MUSIC IS THE WEAPON,” the definitive film on Fela, the Black President, the creator of Afro-beat. Shot in Lagos at the peak of his career in 1982, this documentary contains interviews with Fela detailing his thoughts on politics, Pan-Africanism, music and religion, alongside unpublished versions of songs like ITT, Army Arrangement and Power Show. In this screening proper cinema watching, singing, dancing and other forms of engagement are expected from the audience while simultaneously viewing the film. The event will feature a screening of video art provided by Manuel de Santaren’s collection. Kingsbridge Armory Forum Offers Chance for Developers to Make Their Case to Community

During a forum tonight at Monroe College (6:30 p.m., 2501 Jerome Ave.), the two competing developers looking to revamp the Bronx’s long-vacant Kingsbridge Armory will have a chance to talk face-to-face with the community. It might be their last opportunity to sway locals into their corner before the city’s Economic Development Corporation, which is controlled by the mayor, makes a decision on which group gets the bid.

A Dinnertime Police Raid at Norwood Restaurant Turns Up Little

Fresh off an overnight stay in jail, the relatively new owner of Sal’s Pizza and Restaurant in Norwood said his very public arrest during dinnertime last week was based on erroneous information given to police and that he was the victim of a robbery setup. But police say they executed a valid search warrant and came away with enough evidence to charge the owner with a couple of misdemeanors and a violation.
