When Dan O’Sullivan, a 100-year-old resident of St. Patrick’s Home, first saw his niece who came from Ireland to surprise him at the Home’s Centennial Celebration on June 18, he cried out, “Oh, thank you, Lord,” and rose to greet her. Both of their eyes were filled with tears as they embraced. His niece, Mairead Stringer, is a kind of surrogate daughter, since O’Sullivan has no children of his own. Carving a Bright Future Through the Culinary Track at Project Renewal

Norwood resident Ronald Adam’s life has taken a turn for the better. Adams, formerly incarcerated after spending 45 years in prison, graduated from the culinary arts training program at Project Renewal, a social services firm that aims to combat homelessness. For Adams, this is not just a graduation but a milestone. It’s the first time he graduated from anything. NYPD detectives are combing through surveillance video after a couple walking down East Gun Hill Road was attacked by a group of men. The man was stabbed multiple times and remains hospitalized and in serious condition. Police were called to 291 E. Gun Hill Rd. near Perry Avenue at 9:10 p.m. on June 14. Officers from the 52nd Precinct responded and found the unidentified 24 year-old victim with multiple stab wounds. At the end of 2017, the Mosholu Library was desperately searching for a children’s librarian to fill two vacancies. After a months long search by the New York Public Library, Bronx borough director Gesille Dixon hired two librarians and received many thanks from appreciative Norwood parents who depend on the library for education beyond regular schooling. For Dixon this was just another day at the office serving the nearly 1.5 million residents of the Bronx. In response to recent assaults on the elderly, city and borough officials are making a greater effort at underscoring the litany of resources and safety tips for seniors. “We know that in recent weeks here in the Bronx, in the city of New York, in the media we have seen horrific, horrific examples of abuse, of violence, of assaults, harassment towards our senior population.
