By the Norwood News Vital Stats: About 600,000 Americans die of heart disease each year – that’s one in every four deaths. (Source: Montefiore Medical Center) February is National Heart Month, and Montefiore Medical Center has been spreading awareness through several events, on the dangers of neglecting the heart. The Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care is now leading an effort to reduce heart disease, the leading cause of death in the country. The hospital’s goal is aimed at educating patients, the community and Montefiore associates about heart disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

These days, she’s settling back in. The time away has paid off dramatically. The after school program, aimed at unleashing the creative juices of young people for 37 years, recently relocated back to its original headquarters following a massive $10 million top-to-bottom renovation. The work has reinvigorated the pre-existing space while revamping two formerly unused floors within the four-story building. The program has now left

by David Greene For two weeks Norwood residents have taken to social media websites as well as phoning 311 and local elected officials to complain about unpaved streets and ice covered sidewalks Residents began to complain after vehicles were becoming stuck on streets that had small patches of ice appearing as though the road were partially cleared. PlowNYC, a multi-million dollar city program that outfitted snow-plows with GPS tracking devices, showed that the street’s in question–Decatur and Hull avenues between E. Mosholu Parkway and E. 204 Street, Kossuth Avenue between E. 208th Street and Mosholu Parkway, and Tryon Avenue at East Gun Hill Road–had all been cleared.

Bedford-Mosholu Assoc. Gears Up For Flea Market

by Paolo Mossetti A community association is accepting knickknacks, trinkets and all sorts of unused items from area residents, all for a good cause. The Bedford-Mosholu Community Association is now accepting recycled goods for its 33rd annual Flea Market scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 8th at St. Mary’s Orthodox Church at 360 Bedford Park Blvd. “We collect new and used items, except clothing,” said Barbara Stronczer, the group’s longtime lead organizer, explaining that the venue has no space for “people who can try on the items.”
