Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark announced Thursday, March 5, that a Bronx man has been indicted on second-degree murder and other related charges for allegedly stabbing a man to death after an argument.
“This defendant allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times following a dispute,” Clark said. “The victim lay mortally wounded on the street, before paramedics were able to arrive at the scene.”
The district attorney said that the defendant, Antonio Jackson, 31, of Bryant Avenue, The Bronx, was arraigned Thursday on second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Pamela Goldsmith. He continues to be held in custody and is due back in court in May.
According to the investigation, at around 6.30 p.m. on Jan. 9, Aaron Carpenter, 34, knocked on the defendant’s apartment door and the two men began to argue. The court heard that as Carpenter was leaving, Jackson allegedly grabbed a 12-inch kitchen knife, pursued Carpenter to the lobby, and continued arguing. Prosecutors said that as Carpenter exited the building, Jackson allegedly attacked him from behind.
They said that surveillance video shows Carpenter crawling away from Jackson onto the street and collapsing between two parked cars. They said he was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital and pronounced dead shortly afterwards. They said police arrested Jackson near the scene about an hour later.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joseph Gattuso of the Office of the Bronx District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau, under the supervision of Burim Namani, deputy chief of the Homicide Bureau, Christine Scaccia, chief of the Homicide Bureau, and under the overall supervision of James Brennan, deputy chief of Trial Division and Terry Gottlieb, chief of the Trial Division.
Clark thanked NYPD Detective Fitz Edouard of the 42nd Precinct and Detective Shirley Perez-Romero of Bronx Homicide for their work on the investigation.
