Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (A.D. 81), who broadly represents the northwest Bronx, in collaboration with elected Bronx representatives, has written a letter dated July 15, 2025, to Charter Communications and Altice USA regarding the loss of service of the TV station, NY1, in The Bronx.
He said, “The undersigned representatives have joined in this letter to voice their disapproval of the discontinuation of NY1 services to the Bronx and demand that this service be restored.”
An extract from the letter reads, “We are calling for the restoration of Spectrum News NY1 to the people of The Bronx. The disappointing discontinuance of this channel for Bronxites and others is a loss to those who value receiving information that the channel provides that is not provided by the traditional TV stations.

It continues, “Thousands of residents in New York City, including Bronx residents, have had NY1 as part of their cable TV package for many years. Bronx residents have not only lost NY1 but also access to Spectrum Noticias New York City, a 24-hour, Spanish-language, cable news channel, and many of the nearly one and a half million Bronxites rely on this Spanish-language station.”
The elected officials urged the Charter Communications and Altice to reach an agreement and restore NY1 services to residents. A full copy of the letter is attached above.
According to its website, Spectrum News NY1, which launched on Sept. 8, 1992, is a local news network focused on providing unbiased coverage of New York City, focusing on in-depth coverage of issues including politics, transit, and weather.
