Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Tuesday, June 3, that 109 law school and college students have joined her office this summer as interns.

“The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is excited to again have bright young minds from all over the United States participate in our summer internship program,” Clark said. “The demand to be a part of our internship program grows each year. The 109 students in the program this summer represents one of the largest groups we’ve ever had.”

According to the district attorney, there are 89 students from 40 law schools in New York and across the country participating as interns this year. She said eleven of the law school interns are from The Bronx. Additionally, she said there are 20 undergraduate students attending college in New York and across the nation, and at least 12 of those students are from The Bronx.

Clark said interns will take part in workshops, lectures, hands-on training, and educational trips under the leadership of her office’s legal recruitment bureau and the litigation training bureau. She said a student practice order enables law school interns to perform some functions of an attorney in court and other interns have been assigned to bureaus throughout the office. The summer internship program runs from June 2 to July 25.

Welcome to the Norwood News, a bi-weekly community newspaper that primarily serves the northwest Bronx communities of Norwood, Bedford Park, Fordham and University Heights. Through our Breaking Bronx blog, we focus on news and information for those neighborhoods, but aim to cover as much Bronx-related news as possible. Founded in 1988 by Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a not-for-profit affiliate of Montefiore Medical Center, the Norwood News began as a monthly and grew to a bi-weekly in 1994. In September 2003 the paper expanded to cover University Heights and now covers all the neighborhoods of Community District 7. The Norwood News exists to foster communication among citizens and organizations and to be a tool for neighborhood development efforts. The Norwood News runs the Bronx Youth Journalism Heard, a journalism training program for Bronx high school students.
