The FDNY responded to a call received on Sunday evening, Nov. 22 at 9.59 p.m. regarding a fire which broke out at 2928 Jerome Avenue in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx.

All hands i.e. 12 units comprising 60 firefighters responded to the incident. According to one resident, these included Ladder 3, Ladder 19 and Ladder 57. The FDNY confirmed that the fire started in the kitchen of an apartment dwelling located in the six-story building (60 x 80 feet).

Fortunately, no hospital transfers were required and there were no injuries arising from the incident, and the fire was brought under control at 10:22 p.m.

One resident of the building, Miriam Quiñones, who is also a photographer with the Norwood News, said, after the alarm was raised, the whole block along Jerome Avenue between Minerval Place and Bedford Park Boulevard was filled with fire trucks and EMT response units.

Quiñones said one of the tenants did say they heard breaking glass and saw lots of smoke.

She added that some of the tenants who lived in the building went out onto the fire escape once they realized what was happening. “Thankfully, no one was hurt, and everyone was able to go back to their homes,” she said. “It was scary.”
