A street renaming in the memory of a dead man was unveiled on his birthday. “To Kalief, I want to say happy birthday to him. My brother would’ve been 24 today,” Dion Browder said of his late brother, Kalief Browder. With a blue tent shielding him from punishing rain, Dion was joined at the street renaming by Kalief’s friends and family, and lawmakers who’ve used Kalief’s death as an example of the effects a flawed criminal justice system on an individual. Bronx iPad Thieves Still on the Run A couple of Bronx thieves remain on the run two weeks after they entered a phone store in Norwood and made off with an iPad. The suspects were captured on video browsing around the AT&T store at 3430 Jerome Ave. within the boundaries of the Jerome-Gun Hill Business Improvement District on Saturday, April 29 around 1:30 p.m. One of the thieves swiped the iPad from the display table, and bolting with his accomplice without paying, according to police. Andrew Sandler, Community Board 7’s district manager who took a leave of absence in late January for an undisclosed medical condition, is expected to return to his post next month. The timing comes as the board faces an election season that could see a minimal shift in its executive board. “Andrew Sandler has notified the board that he intends to return to work by mid-June. According to protocol, we have sent Mr. Sandler today the appropriate forms to be completed in order for the board to consider his reasonable accommodation request.
