NCBH Maternity Ward Could Open by September 22

by David Cruz Plans to re-open the maternity ward at North Central Bronx Hospital could come as early as September, hospital officials announced. At a public meeting last week, the Health and Hospital Corporation, health advocates, hospital officials and community advocates unveiled plans for reopening NCBH’s maternity ward by fall of 2014. The opening would come just over a year after hospital administration officials were forced to shut down the ward following a medical staff shortage. Expectant mothers in the neighborhood were forced to commute elsewhere as plans to re-0pen the ward went underway.

Klein To End IDC Alliance With Senate Republicans

Jeff Klein, who’s coalition as the Independent Democratic Conference president increased his a status as a key political figure in the Bronx and Albany, plans to end his relationship with Senate Republicans to rejoin the Senate Democrats in January. The move raises the political influence of Senate Democrats, who were cast aside during the Legislative Session. Klein, a Democrat, was heavily influenced to rejoin Senate Democrats by Governor Andrew Cuomo, a fellow Democrat, who believes more progressive goals will be achieved under Klein’s decision.
