The Class of 2008 at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula, an all-girls private school in Bedford Park, continued a 48-year-old tradition when they skated down the Grand Concourse on Friday morning, Oct. 19, for the school’s annual Ring Day Skate.
The seniors, led by the 52nd Precinct, traveled on roller blades from Poe Park up the service road of the Grand Concourse to 199th Street.
Once they returned to the school, they were greeted with cheers, balloons, and flowers by family, faculty, staff, and their sophomore "sisters."
An assembly that included vocal performances by the sophomore class, a skit by the junior class and a ring ceremony for the senior class followed the skate.
National Honor Society nominations were also given out, with sophomore Stephanie Gruba and junior Julissa Contreras receiving scholarship awards for their work in school and the community. The ceremony ended with the singing of the school’s alma mater.
