Norwood News has reached out to FDNY / EMS for details as one person was seen been transported away from the accident in a stretcher and into a nearby ambulance. We will share details as they become available.

The accident appears to have taken place at Decatur Avenue and East 207th Street, a junction next to P.S. 56, some time before 11.43 a.m.

When contacted, the NYPD press office said they did not yet have a report on the incident and recommended that we check back later on Sunday.

Substantial damage was seen to two cars with less damage to a third. Air bags appeared to have been deployed inside some of the vehicles. They were later towed away. A police officer at the scene did say that the gray-colored car had been moved after the accident and prior to the attached video being recorded (perhaps to let passing traffic get by.) Skid marks were seen at the junction and debris was scattered across the street.

Several people were at the scene on Sunday but nobody we spoke to had actually seen the accident take place. Norwood News was informed of some second-hand information regarding the incident from one person who declined to be identified but for legal reasons, we are unable to publish this information at this time.

We will share any further updates that we can share as soon as they become available. Speaking in Spanish, one woman said she heard the collision and that it was very loud and very strong.

Another male bystander, Onell, who lives on Decatur Avenue said the neighborhood was generally quiet. “Things like this don’t happen often here, especially at this intersection because, you know, not only do we have lights now but it’s a school setting. We barely see people going past 10 [p.m.] around here.  People are very respectful.” he said. “It’s a small neighborhood. Anyone that comes around here probably lives around here.”

“This is truly shocking,” Onell continued.

With collision investigations, the NYPD handles all criminal aspects of the investigation, while NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) reviews the street design at the locations of such crashes.

As reported, a murder took place in the same general area as the accident in early June.
