Fire department officials said an intoxicated person was transported by ambulance from the Jerome Avenue Men’s Shelter (JAMS) in Norwood on Sunday, July 19 to a nearby hospital. An FDNY official added that the person had been falling in and out of consciousness.
The FDNY spokesperson told Norwood News that fire and EMS officials were called to JAMS, located at 3600 Jerome Avenue, between East 213th Street and Bainbridge Avenue, at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday, while other Bronxites were otherwise enjoying the sunny day and / or watching the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup between Argentina and Spain.
“Reported intoxicated person in and out of consciousness,” an FDNY official said, adding that the victim was transported to nearby Montefiore Medical Center in Norwood. The spokesperson said the condition of the patient was not immediately known.

At just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, members of the FDNY’s Engine 62 and several NYPD police officers were seen exiting the entrance to JAMS.
Norwood News reached out to the NYPD for additional details and an NYPD official said, “There are no complaint reports on file with the information provided in your inquiry.”
We also reached out to NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) to make further inquiries about the incident but we did not receive an immediate response. We will share any feedback we receive.
